MagnaColours, a UK-based manufacturer of PVC-free water-based inks for screen-printing of textiles, has announced that after their hard work at MagnaLab designing new and innovative products, the company has added latest addition to its range - MagnaPrint DWR Primer. This will enable water-based inks to be used on DWR (durable water-repellent) fabrics.

Currently printing DWR fabrics is only possible with solvent based inks.

“DWR fabrics pose a problem when it comes to water-based printing. When fabrics have a water-resistant or water-repellent surface, water-based inks cannot properly adhere to the fabric, resulting in poor wash fastness and durability,” MagnaColours stated in a press release. “When not using solvent based inks, previous solutions have often involved removing the resistant coating from the fabric before printing, destroying the water repellency.”

New MagnaPrint DWR Primer adds a printed primer to the garment as an initial under-base. This provides a suitable surface for printing with water-based high solids inks such as MagnaPrint AquaFlex V2.

“With MagnaPrint DWR Primer you can use inks on water-repellent fabrics that previously were not possible to print with water-based products,” the company added.

MagnaPrint DWR Primer is part of company’s continuing commitment at MagnaLab to develop environmentally friendly solutions to the printing challenges facing the industry.
