IPL 2021, CSK vs RR: After scoring a dazzling century in the first match, Rajasthan Royals captain, Sanju Samson’s willow has dried up. In the last two matches, Sanju has returned with single digits (4 and 1). In the crucial chase against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings on Monday, Sanju fell cheaply again on 4 and RR lost the match by 45 runs. However, Sanju isn’t worried about his batting. He stressed on the importance of batting in his usual way and if in the process, he gets out, it will be acceptable.
“Yeah, actually it keeps on happening in this format of the game. I think IPL definitely demands a lot of risk-taking shorts. And I said before when I succeeded, I took a lot of risks. That’s why I scored a hundred. So, it depends actually on the day, the mindset you are coming with,” Sanju Samson said at the post-match press conference on Monday.
“Actually, I don’t want to restrict my shots, I want keep on playing my shots and keep on batting the way I love to bat actually. So, I’m also accepting a lot of failures on the way. So, I am not at all worried about getting out, but at the same time, I will definitely look to keep on contributing to my team’s victory in the coming matches,” he added.
IPL 2021, CSK vs RR: Sanju Samson says captaincy is not putting him under more pressure
While many have pointed out that it is the pressure of captaincy that might be affecting the youngster from Kerala, Sanju Samson refused to believe so. He said every batsman plays under pressure in the IPL.
“Pressure to perform is always there. I think when you play in a match like IPL, I feel the pressure is always there. So, sometimes you succeed sometimes, sometimes you fail. There are a lot of ways to look at the dismissal actually. So, I think I’ll go back and review it and let you know later,” Sanju Samson said.
IPL 2021, CSK vs RR: Sanju Samson misjudged Wankhede conditions
As for the match, Sanju said it was the condition of Wankhede Stadium that he misjudged, resulting in the loss. In other matches, the dew factor has heavily helped the team batting second. With the ball getting wet repetitively, bowlers have had trouble gripping the ball. In the match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, Rishabh Pant’s men 196-target easily with PBKS captain KL Rahul pointing at the dew factor.
But on Monday, dew was considerably less and it assisted spinners to turn the ball. CSK’s two spinners, Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali returned with five wickets in their combined seven overs. Ali registered an impressive figure of 3/7 in his three overs.
“Looking at the previous matches, we played here or which we watched on the TV, I think it was bowling first has more advantage than bowling second. So that’s why we opted to bowl first and actually restricting CSK around 180 was really a good work by our bowlers. I thought if the dew comes on and the wicked eases out a bit, it would have been an easy chase for us actually,” Sanju Samson said.
IPL 2021, CSK vs RR: Playing David Miller at No 5 is right decision, Sanju says
Despite two losses in three matches, Sanju doesn’t want to write off Rajasthan Royals yet. He believes the team will come back stronger in the upcoming games.
“I feel like the IPL is a long format. I think you play 14 continuous matches and it’s very normal to fail in few matches. I think it’s very important to understand that what quality players we have in our lineup. So, it’s always very crucial to remember how good a player or how good a team we are. So, we’ll keep on coming back and keep on trying to win the coming matches,” the Rajasthan Royals skipper said.
As for the batting order, Sanju said he was fine with it and changes to it won’t be necessary. It was after Shivam Dube was sent at No 4 ahead of David Miller, who has been in good form.
“I think our batting order is very nicely set up. I think Shivam Dube is someone who is good at playing spin and pace. I think No 4 really suits him. It depends upon the condition actually. So, if the wicket is really good and the bowling opponents matching him up, I think definitely he will strike well,” Sanju said.
“So, I think he has definitely done really well in the domestic season and I feel he is really looking good and we expect a lot of runs from him in the coming season. David is a really great finisher and one of the greatest finishers in world cricket. So, we really like him to bat at No 5 at the current situation,” he signed off.
