Delhi Covid lockdown news live: Complete curfew likely from tonight

Amid an exponential rise in coronavirus cases, Delhi is likely to be under curfew from Monday night till April 26 morning, sources said. The official announcement is likely to be made later in the day. The official sources said that the decision was taken at a meeting held between Lt governor Anil Baijal and chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. In the last two days, nearly 50,000 people have tested positive and nearly 330 people have died of Covid. The Delhi government on Monday deployed two teams of officers to monitor procurement and supply of oxygen and the Remdesivir drug amid a shortage of both following an exponential rise in Covid-19 cases here. The national capital on Sunday recorded the biggest jump in its daily Covid-19 tally with 25,462 fresh cases, while the positivity rate shot up to 29.74 per cent -- meaning almost every third sample being tested in the city is turning out to be positive.

Delhi's oxygen quota diverted to other states, alleges Arvind Kejriwal

As Covid-19 cases in the national capital continue to rise at an alarming rate, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said Delhi is facing an acute shortage of oxygen and needs much more than the normal supply. Taking to Twitter, Kejriwal also claimed that instead of increasing the oxygen supply to the national capital, Delhi's quota has been to other states. "Delhi facing acute shortage of oxygen. In view of sharply increasing cases, Delhi needs much more than the normal supply. Rather than increasing supply, our normal supply has been sharply reduced and Delhi's quota has been diverted to other states. OXYGEN HAS BECOME AN EMERGENCY IN DELHI," he tweeted.

SDMC fines 1,000 in three days for Covid violations

South Delhi Municipal Corporation has launched a drive against people not adhering to Covid norms. In the last three days, 954 people have been fined for violating the guidelines. “Stern action is being taken against those not following Covid-related guidelines. Challans are being slapped for not maintaining social distancing and not wearing masks,” said SDMC mayor Anamika. She added that during the weekend curfew, the civic agency has intensified its sanitisation drive and have sanitised nearly 2,000 public spaces places like markets, bus stops/stands, bank premises, etc. “To sanitise the area, tankers and jetting machines have been roped in.”

Increase beds in central hosps from 1.8k to 7k, need more oxygen: CM to PM Modi, Amit Shah

CM Kejriwal wrote to PM Modi and called up home minister Amit Shah to apprise them of the grim situation in Delhi and communicated the need to augment beds and oxygen supply. Saying that the city had less than 100 ICU beds vacant, Kejriwal requested an increase in the number of Covid beds in central government hospitals from the existing 1,800 to 7,000.

“In the last 24 hours, 25,500 Covid cases have come up. Before that, we had 24,000 cases, and the day before that we had 19,500 cases. The cases are increasing rapidly. Another concern is that in the last 24 hours, the positivity rate has increased to 30%... (from) around 24% the day before,” Kejriwal said.

CM Arvind Kejriwal will meet LG Anil Baijal Monday to discuss the impact of the weekend curfew and take a call on whether further curbs, including the extension of the weekend curfew, are needed. The weekend curfew will end at 5am on Monday. According to sources, the government may extend the weekend curfew, but there was no official confirmation on this.
