Srinagar, Apr 18 (UNI) Police on Sunday arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband from them in separate incidents in Kashmir valley.
A police spokesperson said that following specific information, a checkpoint was established at Malangam in Bandipora. “During checking, the police party intercepted one person and recovered 160 grams of charas from his possession,” he said.
He said the accused, identified as Samir Ahmad Sheikh, was immediately taken into custody. “A case FIR number 47/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Bandipora and investigation was taken up,” he said.
He said during the course of investigation, it was learnt that the accused drug peddler was supplying these drugs to youth of the area, especially in and around Aloosa-Malangam belt.
He said acting on specific information, officers at a checkpoint established at Levdora Qazigund intercepted a suspicious vehicle with one person on board. “During search, officers were able to recover 12 kgs of Poppy Straw from his possession,” he said.
He said the accused identified as Javeed Ahmad Bhat was immediately taken into custody. “Accordingly, a case vide FIR No 72/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and further investigation into the matter has been initiated,” he said.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood,” he said, adding persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added.
