Telangana sees a record 5,093 fresh COVID-19 cases, 15 fatalities until Saturday night

Hyderabad, Apr 18 (UNI) As the second wave intensifies across Telangana, the state saw the biggest jump in Coronavirus infections since the first case was reported on March two, 2020 by reporting a highest 5,093 fresh COVID-19 cases until 2000 hours on Saturday to take the cumulative caseload to 3,51,424 till date.

The state suffered 15 COVID-19 deaths afresh, which is also one of the highest since the outbreak of the pandemic, taking the total death toll so far to 1,824 translating a case fatality rate of 0.51 per cent as against the countrywide mortality of 1.2 per cent, according to a state health department bulletin here on Sunday.

A total of 1,555 people have recovered from Coronavirus statewide in the last 24 hours pushing the overall recoveries as on date to 3,12,563 constituting a recovery rate of 88.94 per cent while the national recovery rate was 86,6 per cent.

The number of active cases in the state currently stands at 37,037 including 24,156 individuals in home or institutional isolation, the bulletin said.

Between Friday and Saturday, 1,29,637 swab samples were tested in the state to detect the contagious virus and out of which the reports of 5,865 swab samples are awaited.

Cumulatively, more than 1.17 crore COVID-19 tests have been carried out in the state so far since the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The worst-hit Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) remained the chief contributor of the infection by registering a maximum of 743 new Coronavirus cases followed by Medchal Malkajigiri district (488), Rangareddy district (407), Nizamabad district (367), Kamareddy and Sangareddy districts (232) cases each, Jagityal district (223), Warangal Urban district (175), Mahabubnagar district (168), Khammam district (155), Karimnagar district (149), Nalgonda and Nirmal districts (139), Mancherial district (124), Vikarabad district 122, Siddipet district 117, Rajanna Siricilla district (106) and Medak and Nagarkurnool districts (101) cases each.

The remaining COVID-19 cases have been registered by other districts, the bulletin added.
