Rahul Gandhi has suspended all his election rallies in West Bengal in view of the deepening Covid crisis.

"I would advise all political leaders to think deeply about the consequences of holding large public rallies under the current circumstances," he tweeted.

Earlier, he took a jibe at the ongoing political rallies in the state, saying he has seen "such a crowd of sick and dead for the first time".

Yesterday, he had slammed Modi government over worsening pandemic situation, urging the Centre to come up with a better vaccination plan.

Meanwhile, a record single-day jump of 2,61,500 cases and 1,501 fatalities have pushed India's COVID-19 tally to 1,47,88,109 and the death toll due to the viral disease to 1,77,150, the health ministry said on Sunday.
