'Need bed for Covid treatment': VK Singh clarifies tweet amid backlash

NEW DELHI: Union minister of state for road transport and highways General VK Singh on Sunday took to social media to seek help for a person who tested positive for Covid-19 but was unable to find a bed in any hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad.
In his tweet, Singh quoted a message where he had been tagged, along with others. “@dm_ghaziabad Please check this out,” he wrote in response to a tweet saying “please help us, my brother needs a bed for corona treatment. Now beds are not being arranged in Ghaziabad. @shalabhmani @PankajSinghBJP @Gen_VKSingh”.

The Ghaziabad MP, later clarified that he is not related to the person by blood and his tweet was for the district administration to reach out to the infected person. However, the tweet sent netizens into a tizzy prompting Singh to issue a clarification. General Singh later deleted his post on Twitter.
The former Army general responded to trollers and also informed that the bed requirement issue for the coronavirus patient has been sorted out by the local administration and chief minister’s office.
VK Singh’s post comes at a time when the country is reeling under an unprecedented surge in Covid-19 infections and Uttar Pradesh is among the 10 states reporting nearly 79% of daily new cases.
Uttar Pradesh has announced a state-wide lockdown every Sunday till 15 May to check the spread of Covid-19, which is surging ferociously across India. CM Yogi Adityanath himself tested positive this week.
