Covid boom keeps officials in the former Warangal on toes

Warangal: The sudden injection Covid-19 infestation cases in the former Warangal district keep medical and health officials, including and management of private hospitals, on the tents.

With an alarming 29 positive cases reported by Ramchandrunipet, a remote village in the Mangapet Mandal of the Mulugu district in just three days, district collector Krishna Aditya has issued orders declaring the town a ‘confinement zone’. This is the first time that a town will be declared a confinement zone in 2021.

Meanwhile, the ‘self-lockdown’ imposed by the people in the town of Kadipikonda under the Borders Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) is still being observed since its statement ten days ago. The village of Parvathagiri in Enugallu, Mandal in Warangal district, also witnessed an unexplained lockout last week due to a sudden increase in the positive cases. People attending funerals were the main reason for the spread of the virus in these villages, sources said.

According to dr. Allugu Appaiah, Mulugu District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO), has moved the administration some Covid-19 patients to the Covid care center at Eturunagaram except to declare the town of Ramchandrunipet as a delivery zone. “We have also ensured that sodium hypochlorite is sprayed to kill the virus in the town,” he added.

A total of 175 positive cases were reported in the Warangal Urban District on Saturday (April 17), but 60 cases were recorded in the Warangal Rural District. Mahabubabad district saw 57 cases and Jangaon recorded 44 cases. Districts Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Mulugu also reported an increase in cases on Saturday by 25 and 22 cases respectively.

With the number of cases increasing, the authorities of the state-run Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital (MGMH) are making their right to meet any need. When contacted, MGMH Superintendent Dr K Nagarjun Reddy said that they are increasing the number of beds in the Covid-19 will soon close from 550 to 800 beds.

“About 450 beds with oxygen and 100 beds with ventilator are available in the hospital,” he said, adding that a total of 170 Covid patients underwent treatment at the MGMH. Meanwhile, six patients died Covid-19 infection at the MGMH on Sunday.

On the other hand, several private hospitals can no longer take on Covid patients due to a lack of oxygen and Remdesivir supplies in Warangal. On condition of anonymity, the managing director of a large hospital in Warangal said they could only treat 70 patients, although they could admit at least 100 patients.

‘Unlike last year, most infected people come to the hospital for oxygen, but we can not provide beds for that. “The government must take steps to double the supply of oxygen cylinders and Remdesivir injections,” he added.

Meanwhile dr. Suresh Devath, founding president of the Society for Public Welfare and Initiative (SPWI), urged the government to transform the newly established 250-bed super-specialty hospital in the Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) campus into a Covid care hospital to facilitate treatment for the poor among the poor Covid patients. ‘There is an urgent need to use this hospital for the treatment of Covid patients, ”he added.
