MaolKeki Memorial Johnstone Higher Secondary School Scholarships

MaolKeki Foundation and Johnstone Higher Secondary School are pleased to announce three annual scholarships to be awarded to three Class XI students of Johnstone Higher Secondary School in Imphal, Manipur, representing the Arts, Commerce and Science streams.

The Scholarships, to be known as the MaolKeki Memorial Johnstone Higher Secondary School Scholarships, have been instituted by Dr. Tonsana Gurumayum, Mrs. Bidyakumari Hidangmayum, and Dr. Shachi Gurumayum. Dr. Tonsana is an alumnus of Johnstone Higher Secondary School who, after a long and successful career, retired as the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, Government of Manipur.

Johnstone Higher Secondary School is a premier higher secondary school in Manipur recognised by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur. It was established in 1885 by Sir James Johnstone, the political agent of Manipur from 1877-1886 during the British colonial rule in India.

The detailed selection process will be announced in the coming months just after the admission of the next batch of class XI students. Scholarships will be targeted to first division holders in the matriculation exam, and will also include an essay competition.

Commenting on the establishment of the scholarships, Dr. Tonsana Gurumayum said, “As a former student of this government school and a trustee of the MaolKeki Foundation, I am very pleased to be able to give back to my alma mater. I trust these scholarships will support academically bright students to achieve their dreams.”

Principal Mr. Ph. Mantri Singh also commented, “Such a gesture from one of our alumni members is much appreciated and should encourage students to join Johnstone School. We look forward to working together with the MaolKeki Foundation in supporting our student community and hope this kind act will also encourage other alumni members to contribute to the school.”
