IPL 2021: Bumrah is one of the best bowlers in death, says Boult

Chennai: After the 13-run victory over SunRisers Hyderabad at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday, Mumbai Indians Trent Boult praised fellow seam bowler Jasprit Bumrah and said he was one of the best bowlers in the battle.

Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma beat 40 and 32, but SRH manages to maintain a stranglehold because Mumbai Indians are limited to 150/5. In response, SRH was put together for 137 despite a flying start given by Jonny Bairstow.

SRH needed 47 runs in the last five overs, and Vijay Shankar hit six backs in the third over from Krunal Pandya to close the gap. But SRH were put on the back foot again when they lost two wickets in the 18th over and the hope of the team finally disappeared when Jasprit fired Bumrah Shankar with 17 required seven balls.

SRH collapsed in nine balls from 129/5 to 137 when Boult and Jasprit Bumrah denied the batsmen the chance to strike in the death crossing.

Bumrah bowled economically and gave up just 14 runs in his innings, including a wicket, while Boult returned with the figures of 3-28. Spinner Rahul Chahar also picked up three wickets for MI.

“It’s great to see such a man operating. How clear he is with what he is doing with the ball throughout the game. But at death, I personally believe he is one of the best bowlers in the death victory. “He makes my job a lot easier, but it’s nice to be on the right side of these situations and hopefully we can get some momentum in the tournament, ‘Boult said at the post – match press conference.

‘It’s hard to put one show out there. Many honors on the whole side to visit there. We knew we were a few runs less than the par score. But we also knew that this was a field where you could fight. And you get some wickets, you can really get in the chase again. I thought some direct hits from Hardik (Pandya) and the three wickets from Rahul (Chahar) were important when we bowled. “And when Bumrah was there, his four overs for just 14 were pretty great,” he added.

The New Zealand pacemaker went on to talk about the difference between the wickets in Mumbai and Chennai.

‘The contrast between Wankhede and Chepauk Stadium is quite large. It seems to be spinning around nicely and it is a perfect surface in Mumbai. As a pace builder, you need to be extremely accurate. The key was really our ability to bowl dots and keep going to increase the run rate, ”said Boult.

Boult also shared his views on their first matches in Chennai.

“I think it’s very unique. This gives us the chance to settle at the venue. But the key is to read the terms and conditions as quickly as possible and really take advantage of them. So this is a unique situation. We have five here, four in Delhi, moving around a bit. ‘I think especially in the first half of the tournament you naturally get on the right side of a few results and as I touched on earlier, it’s nice to get those few wins in the last two games,’ he said.
