COVID: Marathwada region registers record 8,420 cases with 142 fatalities

Aurangabad, Apr 18 (UNI) The eight districts of Marathwada region recorded the biggest single-day spike of 8,420 coronavirus cases and highest 142 fatalities in the past 24 hours, health authorities said on Sunday.
Details from all the district headquarters collected by UNI show that out of the eight districts of the region, Aurangabad was the worst affected, which recorded the highest number of positive cases ie 1,600 cases and 39 deaths, followed by Nanded with 1450 new cases and 28 deaths,Latur had 1643 cases and 25 deaths, Osmanabad egistered 653 new cases and 20 deaths, Parbhani had 788 cases and 16 deaths, Jalna had 869 cases and 7 deaths, Hingoli had 206 cases 4 deaths and Beed had 1211 cases and three deaths.
Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours, a total of 67,123 fresh cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the past day across the state, bringing the total number of infections in the state to 37,70,707.
The state also registered 414 more deaths, taking the death toll to 59,970.
Meanwhile, a record 56,783 patients were recovered in the state, taking the total number of recoveries to 30,61,174.
The state's recovery rate currently stands at 81.18 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.61 per cent.
At present there are 6,47,933 active patients across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, they added.
In view of the rising number of cases, the state government had imposed a 15-day curfew in the state upto May 1 under the initiative of ' break the chain’ exempting emergency services.
