CHENNAI: The
Tamil Nadu government is mulling imposing night curfew as Covid-19 cases surge and a decision on more curbs is likely on Sunday.
“The state is considering night curfew like other states to check the soaring cases. Further restrictions are also on the cards, which will not touch commercial and economic activity,” a highly placed source said. The state may order closure of gyms.
Chief secretary
Rajeev Ranjan held a meeting of department heads and health officials in the Secretariat on Friday, but no decisions were taken. These await chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami who is expected to return to Chennai from Salem on Sunday.
Government sources said that it would become a strain on infrastructure and manpower if fresh cases rose to more than 10,000 a day. The priority is vaccination of all eligible persons at the earliest.
