Neches River Fest rocks despite weather's damper

The rain may have literally rained on - or out, as the case may be - the annual parade celebrating the Neches River Festival in downtown Beaumont Friday, but the party went on.

Celebrants gathered as planned on Crockett Street for the Street Party, featuring music by an 80’s cover band moved inside The Gig, activities for kids, beverages provided by Del Papa, food and more.

The Mardi Gras floats that were to carry festival participants became decorative party favors for the Crockett Street event and a playground for children that joined in the festivities inbetween decorating crowns, getting faces painted and lapping up Sno-Cones from a Kona truck parked outside the venue.

2021 Neches River Fest King Kyle Hayes was in hand to join in the festivities, as were last year’s Queen court members.

The festival wraps up Saturday with coronation of this year’s Neches River Fest Queen at the Julie Rogers Theatre, followed by a ball at The Civic Center.
