Dundalk winger Michael Duffy says that players have been getting away with deserved criticism because of the focus on the club’s management situation.

The Lilywhites have taken just one point from their opening four games and there is strong speculation around the position of Filippo Giovagnoli and the rest of the management team.

But Duffy feels that the leading lights in the dressing room have to take responsibility, with a number of chats taking place since last weekend’s defeat to Bohemians.

“We understand the situation,” said Duffy ahead of tonight’s visit of St Patrick’s Athletic. “I feel like the players have sort of dodged a lot of criticism really and a lot has been on the coaching staff but it’s us playing the games at the end of the day and there are a lot of players that have been here for the last four or five years and it’s not good from us. We don’t look at the coaching side of things. We just need to be a lot better.

“We think it’s a lot down to us really, it’s us that are playing the games. We’ve been showing what we can do, it’s good and then we’re being slack and it’s down to us really. We haven’t been good enough and we’ve probably dodged a lot of criticism.

“We know we need to be a lot better. I don’t know what it’s been but training needed to be up from the players. It definitely has, it’s been a great week, a competitive week and everyone has enjoyed it. We needed the chat because we know it’s been slacking a bit and our performances weren’t good. Hopefully it drives us on.”
