7th Pay Commission: Center Extends Special Allowance To Officers Belonging To This Region
In order to offer monetary support to All India Service (AIS) officers stationed in the Union Territory of Ladakh, the government has agreed to extend a provision for additional monetary benefits known as (Special Allowances for officers belonging to AIS North East cadres) to AIS officers posted in the UT of Ladakh. AIS officers stationed in the UT of Ladakh will receive an additional Special Allowance and Special Duty Allowance worth 20% and 10% of their basic salary, respectively, as a result of the center's decision. As a result of the central government's announcement, the 7th CPC pay matrix for AIS officers stationed in the UT of Ladakh will change. In this respect, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has already released an Office Memorandum (OM). According to the DoPT Office Memorandum, "It has now been decided to extend ipso facto provisions contained in the above mentioned OM dated 10th February 2009 to the All India Service Officers working in UT of Ladakh, subject to the ceiling mentioned in the letter dated 25th July 2017 and instructions issued in this regard from time to time."
The centre had given additional monetary incentives to officers assigned to the North-East Cadres of the All India Services in a DoPT letter dated 10th February 2009. In addition to other allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA), Travel Allowance (TA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and others, AIS officers posted in the North-East are granted a 'Special Allowance,' which is worth 25% of their basic pay. That being said, in July 2017, the Special Allowance of 25% of basic salary for AIS Officers assigned in the North-East region was updated. According to a DoPT OM dated July 25, 2017, the Special Allowance of 25% of the basic salary was changed to Special Allowance and Special Duty Allowance of 20% and 10% of the basic salary for AIS officers assigned in the North-East. Following the extension of this Special Allowance to AIS officers posted in the UT of Ladakh, they will now be eligible for Special Allowance and Special Duty Allowance, which will be payable at 20% and 10% of their basic salary, respectively. This Special Allowance is appropriate in accordance with the 7th CPC pay matrix recommendations as stated in the DoPT OM dated July 25, 2017.
