They own nothing and are not allowed to make any changes to the house without permission. But in return they are taken care of and don't have to fix any problems themselves. That's probably why women prefer to rent because they don't mind being taken care of even if it means they have no freedom.

If you're in a city with low vacancy it's not uncommon for basement renters (students, single moms and losers) to pay off your mortgage or most of it for you. BRB living for free.

Bought a 2/1/1 duplex at a gated estate in the best part of town here for $385K. Due to be finished on the first week of May. Got a call from the developer and asked me if I was going to rent it out. I said I was. He told me he had an employee coming to town and was looking for a place to rent, furnished. He'll be paying me $500 a week.
I'll end up ahead (positive cashflow) around $100 a week once building depreciation is taken into account.
