#Kolkata: Provincial Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has filed a case in the Calcutta High Court demanding a CBI probe into the Shitalkuchi incident. Advocate Pratip Kumar Chattopadhyay has filed the public interest litigation in the Calcutta High Court on behalf of Adhirbabu.
According to the statement of the case, a number of questions have been raised in the context of the shooting incident at Shitalkuchi booth in the fourth round of voting on April 10. Did the army take any other measures before firing on that day? Several questions have been raised as to whether the Election Commission has properly complied with the guidelines given by the Supreme Court. Adhir Chowdhury demanded that a CBI inquiry or a judicial inquiry led by a High Court judge should be held before the court so that the family members of the victims get justice in all these matters.
The four people who were shot dead at booth number 126 and one in a separate incident at booth number 265 of the Amtali Secondary Education Center in Shitalkuchi – these incidents need to be properly investigated and he thinks that only a judicial high committee or the CBI can do that impartially. Adhirbabu’s question, why the central forces did not shoot at other parts of the body or legs that day? Was the situation provocative at all in Shitalkuchi that day? What happened that the CRPF had to shoot? Adhir Chowdhury thinks that the truth of all these incidents must come to light.
Earlier, two more public interest litigation cases were filed seeking judicial probe into the shooting incident in Shitalkuchi. A division bench of the chief justice has already directed the CID to file a report by May 5 in the case.
