Rolls Royce launched the all-new second-generation Ghost in the Indian market last year. There are already three second-generation Rolls Royce Ghost sedans in India. The latest one is owned by the billionaire businessman – Kumar Mangalam Birla.

The vehicle was spotted in Mumbai, Maharashtra and as per details available, it is not even a month old. This is not the standard Rolls Royce Ghost. In fact, this is the extended wheelbase version or the EWB variant. This gets an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 7.95 crore, without any customisation option or road tax. While we are not sure about the customisations and options that Mr Birla chose for his latest ride, the final amount for the vehicle is at least Rs 9 crore. The pictures are by Mr Jain on Instagram.

The extended wheelbase version of the Rolls Royce Ghost is about 170mm longer than the standard version, which is quite long already. This ensures acres of space inside the vehicle, especially for the rear seat passengers. The Rolls Royce Ghost EWB is especially targeted at customers who move around with a chauffeur instead of driving the vehicle themselves.

Since the EWB version is longer than the standard version, it is about 40kg heavier too. The second-generation Rolls Royce Ghost is a huge improvement over the first-generation car. It uses the new space frame chassis that also underpins the Rolls Royce Phantom.

Powering the Ghost EWB is a massive 6.75-litre V12 petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 563 Bhp and a peak torque of 850 Nm. The power and torque figures are identical to the regular Ghost. It gets an AWD system. Also, for the first time ever, the Ghost comes with rear-wheel steering that allows nimble handling at high speeds and reduces the turning radius at lower speeds.

Loaded with features

On the outside, the extended wheelbase version looks similar to the standard version of the Ghost. However, it does look longer than the regular version. The rear door is also longer while the body around the apertures is longer too. Inside the cabin, the EWB version gets Serenity Stea, which is wider, better cushioned and as per Rolls Royce, it offers comfort that is similar to a business class jet.

The vehicle also gets a new Champagne fridge that operates between 6 and 11 degrees Celcius, which Rolls Royce claims is the ideal temperature to serve wine. The new Rolls Royce EWB is developed with customer feedback and most of them come from the Asia Pacific region, where big cars is a trend. The extended wheelbase is priced at Rs 1 crore more than the standard version.

Birla’s upgrade

Kumar Mangalam Birla has received a massive update when it comes to his car. He used to move around in a BMW 7-Series and that remained his only ride for a long time. It should be noted that Rolls Royce is owned by BMW and until the first-generation version, Rolls Royce used the BMW platforms for its vehicles too.
