Thane, Apr 15 (UNI) Three women, including a mother-daughter duo, have been arrested by the police on the charge of allegedly cheating and marrying multiple men and extracting money from them .
Quoting from the complaint, police said the victim, a resident of Bhavdhad in Bhiwandi taluka of the district, came to know about the girl through an acquaintance of his family and after meeting the girl at Malegaon of Nashik district, they got married on March 30.
Meanwhile, on April 12, her mother fixed the girl's marriage with another man from Dhule and when the girl got a call for the same, the whole racket was exposed.
In the intervening period, the girl's mother, without revealing her identity, extracted around Rs 1.07 lakh from the victim (complainant) under some pretext or the other.
Similarly, the girl and two others had already taken Rs 60,000 from the man in Dhule some days back and were to marry off the girl to him.
The accused -- Rina Ravindra Devre (the girl), Mangal Ravindra Devre (mother) and Sunita Sanjay Mahire (aunt), all from Malegaon of Nashik district -- were arrested on Monday. The trio had thus cheated at least four others.
An offence under sections 420 and 34 of Indian Penal Code has been registered with the Shanti Nagar police at Bhiwandi against the trio, sources added.
