Firm’s phone number used for extortion calls, 3 held

Gurgaon: Three persons were arrested by the crime branch for allegedly making extortion calls by using the customer care number of a financial company. The company had issued some numbers to its employees for making loan recovery calls.
The gang was exposed after a person went to police, alleging that he received a threat call from the financial company’s landline number.
On March 4, Pritam Singh, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, filed a complaint at Sector 9A police station, alleging that he received a threat call from a landline number on March 3. The caller allegedly threatened to kill him and asked him to arrange money. The caller, according to the complainant, also said he will call after two days and by then the latter should arrange the money.
Next day, Singh approached cops and a case was registered under section 384 (extortion) of IPC at Sector 9A police station. Sub-inspector Dalbat Singh, in-charge of Sector 10 crime unit, and his team managed to arrest the accused on Wednesday, who have been identified as Royal Kataria from Vivek Garden, Sahil from Sector 9A and Sarthak from Ambedkar Nagar.
