Siddipet: An elderly couple were charred to death when their hut was killed during a fire accident in Tangallapally town in Koheda Mandal during the intermission of Thursday and Friday.
According to residents, the victims Yada Narasaiah (95) and Yada Latchamma (85), both bedridden, stayed in the hut. Their three sons, who lived in separate houses, cared for them earlier.
Narasaiah’s older son, Balaiah, 78, said his father was a smoker and that a cigarette butt led to the fire.
He said they woke up at 2:30 a.m. when they heard his father’s call for help. With the help of villagers, Balaiah said they managed to put out the fire but that they could not save their parents. Death was immediate for both. Koheda police have registered a case.
