AP reports 6,096 fresh cases of Covid-19, 20 more die

Vijayawada, Apr 15 (UNI) The fresh cases of Coronavirus continue to rise in Andhra Pradesh without any respite as a whopping 6,096 new cases have been reported while 20 more patients have died in a period of 24 hours.

A health bulletin, which was released here on Friday evening, said that 35,962 swab samples were tested in a period of 24 hours ending at 10 am today of which 6,096 were tested positive for Coronavirus while 20 more patients died in various districts. The pandemic has so far claimed the lives of 7,373. AP has been witnessing a steady rise of fresh cases for the last four days. There are 35,592 active cases at present in the state.

Large number of fresh cases 1,024 were reported in Chittoor district, 750 in EG district, 735 in Guntur district and 550 in Kurnool district. The total number of positive cases has risen to 9,48,231 of which 9,05,266 have been discharged as they recovered. So far 1,56,06,163 swab samples have been tested in AP.

Film star turned politician and Janasena party chief K Pawan Kalyan tested positive for Coronavirus and is undergoing treatment in Hyderabad.

Several education institutions and schools declared holidays while the attendance of students in some schools has dwindled. The authorities announced the closure of the famous Kodanda Rama Swamy temple at Vontimitta in Kadapa district and Lepakshi temple in Anantapur district in view of massive spike of fresh cases.

Official sources said that scarcity prevailed for oxygen at many hospitals while beds are not available for new patients. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to supply 60 lakh doses of Covid vaccines to Andhra Pradesh. He directed the officials concerned to take steps to make available more beds to the patients.
