Gurgaon: Residents of Palam Vihar on Thursday met the chief engineer of municipal corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) to inform him about the low supply of water in many parts of the colony. The residents pointed out that block A, C-1, E, F and J have been facing the water shortage for the past few weeks. Many blocks and lanes are still getting water supply for only 15 minutes throughout the day, the residents said. They alleged that the contractor has adopted a callous attitude towards their grievances and has not performed his duty efficiently.
Naresh Sharma, vice president of F block RWA said, “Over 2,000 families in the colony are facing water shortage since the last two months, but now with the onset of summer, it is really pinching us all. The problem has worsened due to low pressure with water supply lasting only for 15 minutes a day. The situation is likely to get worse and turn into a major crisis if the MCG does not act soon.”
The residents said that earlier there was shortage of supply from the GMDA and after several follow up with authority, the water supply to the storage tanks in the colony has been restored but the shortage faced by the residents continues due to a faulty supply system, old pipes and defective valves, they said.
Major General (Retd.) BK Pande, a resident of F Block said, “We are forced to spend over Rs 1,100-1,200 on private tankers to meet our daily requirement. Builders are blatantly violating the norms and using potable water for the construction purpose using heavy motor resulting in water shortage in our area. Despite several complaints about it to the MCG, no action has been taken so far.”
Sagar Rajan, president of Palam Vihar resident’s association said, “The civic body needs to take immediate steps to restore full water supply to the residents of the colony from the water tank to our home and upgrade the infrastructure and procedure.”
Meanwhile, TL Sharma, chief engineer of MCG said, “I have met the residents and have already directed the officials to look into their complaint. The issue will be resolved soon.”
