Covid-19 in Puducherry: Recovery rate drops

PUDUCHERRY: The recovery rate of patients with Covid-19 infection dropped from 98% in January to 91% in April in the Union territory of Puducherry. Of the 45,862 cases reported so far in the territory, 41,895 patients recovered registering a recovery rate of 91.4%.
The territory reported 413 fresh Covid-19 cases even as 176 patients recovered in the last 24 hours as of 10am on Thursday taking the total number of active cases to 3,268. Of them, 2,662 are under home isolation and treatment.
Puducherry headquarters reported the maximum fresh cases with 340 followed by Karaikal and Mahe with 30 each and Yanam with 13. Puducherry headquarters has the maximum active cases with 2,378 followed by Karaikal (639), Yanam (137) and Mahe (114).
A patient in Mahe died taking the death toll to 699. Puducherry headquarters has the maximum fatalities with 560 followed by Karaikal (82), Yanam (45) and Mahe (12). The fatality rate of the infection stood at 1.5%.
Healthcare authorities have so far sent 7.16 lakh swab samples for testing of which 6.53 lakh samples returned negative. The positivity rate of the samples (2,811) tested on Wednesday stood at 14.7%.
The Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services on Wednesday has administered the Covid-19 vaccine to 64 healthcare workers, 71 frontline workers and 8,493 others. The directorate has so far administered the vaccine to 29,491 healthcare workers, 16,923 frontline workers and 84,150 others - a total of 1.3 lakh people.
