Leopard enters house, attacks three members of family, tranquilised later

Vellore, Apr 15 (UNI) A leopard sneaked into a house, attacked
three members of a family, before the forest department officials
tranquilised it and captured the big cat on Thursday morning.
The incident took place at Kalarpalayam in Gudiyatham in this
district of Tamil Nadu late last night.
The injured included two women all the injured were admitted to
a hospital
Forest department sources said Prema (40) and her son Manohar
(20) and daughter Mahalakshmi (14) were sleeping inside the
house, leaving the main door open for ventilation.
Around midnight, the big, which had strayed from the nearby
forest area, entered the house and attacked them.
All the three members ran out of the house in panic and closed
the main door, trapping the big cat inside.
Acting on information, police and Forest Department officials
rushed to the spot after a night long operation the leopard was
tranquilised.
A special team from the Hosur Forest Department came to the
village.
“Since the animal was hiding in one of the rooms, the Forest
officials tried different options to make it come to the hall so
that they could tranquilise it", the sources said, adding, they
also used a battery-operated toy car for this purpose.
As it did not yield the desired results, the officials finally
drilled a small hole in the rear wall of the house and the
leopard, perhaps scared by the noise, ran into the hall
when the authorities fired the tranquiliser shot.
After checking its condition, the leopard was brought out in
a stretcher and shifted to a cage, amid loud cheers from
curious onlookers who had thronged the spot.
The big cat was later taken into the forest area, near Sarangal
on the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border, and will be released
after checking its health condition again,” the sources said.
