Curtains on Nagarjuna Sagar bypoll campaign

Hyderabad: Election for the Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly rally on April 17 came to an end on Thursday, with the ruling TRS confident of retaining the seat. Public Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s public meeting on Wednesday in Haliya was a victim when he promised, among other things, the assurance of the most important Nellikal elevator irrigation scheme within 18 months. The Prime Minister also stated that the vote should not only take place on the basis of promises, but also on the good work that the TRS government has done over the past seven years.

The bypoll is essentially seen as a battle between TRS candidate Nomula Bhagath and veteran Congress leader K Jana Reddy. There are 39 other candidates, including BJP’s Pandugothu Ravi Kumar. The intercourse is essential through the death of Nomula Narasimaiah in December last year. In addition to the efforts of the TRS government to spur the rapid development in the former Nalgonda district, the human-friendly, development-oriented image of Narasimaiah Bhagath makes the natural choice of the voters.

Jana Reddy, a former Congress war horse who served seven terms as MLA, including three terms of Nagarjuna Sagar, is seen as a person who did nothing for the development of the constituency. He was defeated in the 2018 parliamentary election by Narasimaiah.

On the other hand, the 37-year-old Bhagath’s entry into election politics comes as a breath of fresh air and he comes armed with a good CV. Bhagath, a BTech and LLM degree holder, worked as a software engineer before beginning to practice law in the Telangana High Court. BJP has asked Ravi Kumar, a practicing doctor from the Lambada community who holds 40,000 votes in the constituency, in the field. Apart from the caste dynamics, Ravi Kumar has nothing much to boast about in politics.
