Braga will be present at FITUR as Best European Destination 2021, consolidating its position as a city of excellence and an international tourism leader. This Portuguese city will show its varied attractions and reasons for visiting at its stand at the International Tourism Fair, which is celebrating its Tourism Recovery Special edition from 19th to 23rd May, at Feria de Madrid.

Braga City Council said that Braga, one of Portugal’s leading cities, will be present at FITUR with a stand showcasing the many reasons to visit. They have a something of everything to delight even the most discerning travellers, the elderly, the young and all families. There is something for everyone, whether by day or by night, whether you’re looking for monuments or food or nature and outdoor activities (like its networks of trails, river beaches), or the entertainment and fun nightlife.

Braga is a town “with a unique history, known to this day as the city of the Archbishops and still as the Portuguese Rome, for the faith of its people, its numerous religious events (Easter Week is still the leading tourist attraction), for the numerous churches and shrines scattered around the city and its surrounding area: besides the Cathedral, there is the Bom Jesús church, a World Heritage Site, and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sameiro, and many other beautiful religious buildings.”

But besides its religious attractions, Braga also has other kinds of events to attract tourists, such the festivals at São João, the Roman Braga festival recalling when it was known as Bracara Augusta, part of the Roman Empire, the White Night festival, the Christmas festivals, and many others.

In addition to its beautiful landscapes (Bom Jesus, Sameiro, and more), the town has “a fantastic food culture to satisfy even the most demanding appetites,” and it is still “a bustling shopping city, with its streets always full of people looking for traditional shops and boutiques.”

Braga suggests calm, peace and safety. “Where urban development lives alongside tradition in calm and peaceful coexistence. Its natural beauty inspires contemplation and is pleasing to the eye. That’s the charm of this city. For all these reasons, Braga has been voted Best European Destination 2021. “Because here we preserve tradition and blend it with innovation. With its old houses and monuments, the historic centre shares space with new buildings and new attractions, with a more cosmopolitan air like the Nanotechnology Institute, the new Braga Municipal Stadium, the Altice Forum Braga.”

Braga has a promising future ahead. “It’s a young city but full of history. Above all, it’s a modern city and, secondly, it preserves many of its roots and traditions. It has many good things to offer: Friendly, welcoming people, a quiet way of life, great shops, fantastic monuments and beautiful landscapes. It’s a city that has a positive effect on visitors.”
