  • A woman accused of killing two Orange Farm minors appeared in court on Thursday.
  • Pontsho Mohlanka faces two counts of murder.
  • Mohlanka, who remains in custody, is awaiting a High Court date.

The double murder case against a woman accused of kidnapping and killing two minors has been transferred to the High Court.

The Vereeniging Magistrate's Court informed Lesotho national Pontsho Mohlanka the trial would be heard by the High Court due to the seriousness of the charges she faced.

She stands accused of murdering Simphiwe Mgcina, 6, and Mpho Makondo, 8. The friends and neighbours were last seen on 18 September, walking home from a nearby hair salon in Orange Farm.

Their bodies were found the following day.

The minors' deaths left residents fearing for their children's safety.

Mpho's grandmother Morgineh Malatji earlier told News24 that she was calling on the court to punish Mohlanka.

Malatji called for residents to remain calm and not to take the law into their own hands.

Mohlanka has abandoned her bail application. She is expected back in court on 24 June, for a High Court date.
