AGRA: Agra Police, on Thursday, arrested eight persons — including two pradhan candidates — after they looted two ballot boxes, including an empty one, from polling booth 10 at Rihavali village.
The arrest came following a clash between two groups over alleged fake voting during the first phase of UP panchayat polls.

Talking to TOI, senior superintendent of police Muniraj G said that they all will be booked under the National Security Act along with the IPC sections of loot and robbery.

He said, an FIR is being registered in the matter.
The ballot box will be recovered soon.
Police force has been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
Those who were arrested by police include pradhan candidates — Malkhan Singh and Layak Singh — and six others — Nehen Singh, Khet Singh, Dev lal, Parikshit.
Five of them were injured, said police.
According to district magistrate Prabhu N Singh, there were two polling booths in the village at a distance of 500 meters.
The incident took place at one of them.
He said a re-poll will be considered on this booth.
