Hyderabad: Affairs has been registered against a Home Affairs Minister, a Telangana minister, a congressman and other political leaders for allegedly violating convoy guidelines while campaigning for a by-election , police said Wednesday.
The by-pole is to the Nagarjuna Sagar constituency in the Nalgonda district in Telangana.
Cases against Kishan Reddy, G Jagadish Reddy and A Revanth Reddy and others have been discussed because they violated the Electoral Commission’s standards on the number of vehicles in a convoy during the COVID-19 pandemic, police said.
According to the guidelines, only five vehicles were allowed in the convoy, in addition to the safety vehicles, a senior police officer said.
Instead, there were more vehicles, he said.
“We were collecting video footage and it was found that the vehicles were more, so we discussed the issues,” said Nalgonda District Superintendent of Police AV Ranganath.
The senior police officer further said that they also registered cases against the TRS candidate Nomula Bhagat and the BJP candidate P Ravi Kumar Naik because they did not COVID-19 norms.
There have also been several instances of breach of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and non-compliance with the COVID-19 guidelines as the political leaders did not wear masks, police said.
The election for the Nagarjuna Sagar constituency is scheduled for April 17.
