Kerala State board plans no changes in SSLC, Plus Two exam schedule
Image used for representational purpose onlyTHIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State government has ruled out the possibility of making any changes in the SSLC and Plus Two examination schedules in the wake of the CBSE decision to axe the class 10 and 12 examinations for the upsurge of Covid cases.
Director of General Education Jeevan Babu said the ground situation in Kerala was not horrid as it was in certain other states in the country. "As of now, there is nothing that forces us to rethink any changes in the schedule of ongoing examinations. Everything is progressing as planned and adequate steps are in place to follow the Covid-19 protocol," Jeevan Babu told TOI.
The ongoing SSLC examination is scheduled to conclude on April 29 and the second year higher secondary and vocational higher secondary exams by April 26. ``The number of students appearing for the Plus Two examination on every single day is different as the examinations are stretched across a long period. We have arranged special facilities for Covid-positive candidates and candidates in quarantine to take examinations in every centre. There is not much fluctuation in the number of Covid-positive students taking the exams'', he said.
Meanwhile, teaching organisations with affiliation to opposition parties criticised the government for making arbitrary changes in the original examination schedule, as per which the exams were to be over before the assembly election.
"The government should make additional and enough arrangements to ensure the safety of students and teachers involved in the SSLC and Plus Two examinations'', said KPSTA president M Salahudeen.
The association accused the government for not heeding to its opinion that examinations should be conducted as per the original schedule in March. But, the government postponed it to please the demand of the pro-CPM teachers' association, it said.
