Gurgaon: The owner and cook of a hotel in Sector 12 were arrested after videos circulated on WhatsApp showed them spitting on uncooked rotis before putting them in the tandoor. They were released on bail, only to be arrested again later on Wednesday night.
The video was made by a family waiting in their car outside Alsifa Hotel.
It shows a youth wearing a yellow T-shirt and another person making rotis. Before putting the rotis in the tandoor, they are seen spitting on the dough.
The video was circulated among WhatsApp groups and became viral. The administrator of one of the groups, Bharat Singh, decided to verify the video and went to the hotel.
“I saw the same people who were seen in the video working there. One of them was the cook and the other the owner of the hotel,” Singh said.
The cook was identified as Usman Malik from Baghpat in UP and the owner, Mohammad Ibrahim, from Seemapuri in New Delhi.
“What they did was not only distasteful but all the more dangerous in times of Covid,” said Singh, who filed a police complaint.
A case was registered against the two under sections 269 (negligent act to spread infection), 270 (spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life), 295A (outraging the religious feelings), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and other relevant provisions of the IPC.
Sub-inspector Krishan Kumar of Sector 14 police station said soon after receiving the complaint, they rushed to the hotel and verified the identities of the two persons seen in the video. “They were arrested and released on bail,” he added.
