House panel advances bill to study reparations for descendants of enslaved Americans

H.R. 40, which was first launched in Congress in 1989 by Michigan Democrat John Conyers, is called for Gen. William Sherman’s Field Order No. 15 — a promise of 40 acres and a mule to former slaves on the finish of the Civil War.

Jackson Lee stated Tuesday that the Congressional Black Caucus mentioned reparations with Biden throughout their assembly that day, and that Biden is “committed to the concept” of reparations.
