Amazon has launched 2nd-gen Echo Buds, its true wireless stereo earphones in the US. The all-new Echo Buds have a new design and many upgrades over its predecessor. To summarize all the new things before an in-depth introduction, the new Echo Buds gets a smaller design, more comfortable fit, ANC tech, wireless charging option, high-performance drivers for dynamic audio, and all of these things at not a higher price.
The main highlight of the new in-ear truly wireless earbuds from Amazon is custom-designed Active Noise Cancellation technology. Amazon touts the new Echo Buds cancel twice as much noise compared to the first-generation, thus making them ideal for traveling or if you are sitting at a peaceful place. According to Amazon, the tech uses the inner and outer microphones to intelligently estimate sound pressure in the eardrum and cancels out unwanted noise.
To turn on Active Noise Cancellation, simply press and hold either earbud or just say, “Alexa, turn on noise cancellation.” And, when you want to hear your surroundings, just enable the “Passthrough Mode” by pressing and holding one either earbud or by simply saying, “Alexa, turn on Passthrough.” You can go to settings in the Alexa app to further adjust the amount of ambient sound you want to hear.
The new Echo Buds feature new drivers in each earbud. This is to ensure balanced sound with extended dynamic range. Amazon says the speakers have also been optimized for an increased fidelity in bass and treble.
Coming to its design, the Echo Dots 2nd-gen is 20% smaller and lighter than its predecessor. Amazon touts the TWS earbuds have been developed for better comfort. They feature a short nozzle that improves fit and the new built-in vents reduce ear pressure during use, thus perfect for long periods of use during the day.
The Amazon Echo Buds (2nd Gen) TWS earphones are said to offer a total of up to 15 hours of playtime with the battery of the charging case included and ANC on. and about 19.5 hours total with the charging case battery included and ANC off.
Amazon has provided four ear tips and two wingtip sizes with the new Echo Dots 2021. The earbuds are IPX4 rated for sweat resistance. They support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0.
Echo Buds will also receive a feature called VIP Filter later this year. The feature lets you select the notification you want to hear and filters them out. The selected notification will play in your ear with a double-tap or can be dismissed with a single tap.
The all-new Echo Buds come in Black and Glacier White color options. They are available for pre-order today and the shipping will begin in the US in May. The price of the Echo Buds 2nd-gen is $119.99 with USB-C wired charging option and $139.99 with wireless charging option.
