CHENNAI: A man who was arrested on the charges of murdering his wife committed suicide two days after coming out on bail in Ponneri on Tuesday night, police said.
The man, Praveen Kumar, 26, a private company employee, married his girlfriend Shivaranjani last year.
However the couple were not on good terms and kept quarrelling often. Praveen Kumar is said to have suspected his wife’s fidelity. On November 20, during one such fight, Praveen smothered his wife using a pillow and surrendered before the Thirupalaivanam police.
Police booked him on charges of murder. On Monday, after he came out on bail he remained aloof from his family members. He locked himself up in a room.
On Wednesday night, his family members checked his room and found him hanging from the ceiling. Following this, they informed police who sent the body for postmortem to a government hospital in Ponneri.
Police said that Praveen was mentally depressed after his wife’s murder and might have ended his life over this. He did not leave behind any suicide note.
