CHANDIGARH: Punjab recorded 4,333 fresh Covid cases, the highest ever single-day case count since the pandemic started last year, while 51 people died on Thursday. The earlier single-day highest count of 3,477 was recorded on April 12.
As many as 10 people died in Amritsar, nine in Hoshiarpur, six each in Ludhiana and Gurdaspur, five in Patiala, two each in Bathinda, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ferozepur and Jalandhar, one each in Faridkot, Fazilka, Mohali, Pathankot, Sangrur and Tarn Taran.
Mohali recorded 860 fresh cases -- highest number of cases reported by any district till date-- while 482 people were tested positive in Ludhiana, 399 in Jalandhar, 365 in Amritsar, 353 in Patiala, 301 in Bathinda, 194 in Gurdaspur, 153 in Hoshiarpur, 127 each in Kapurthala and Ferozepur, 110 in Faridkot, 104 in Ropar, 93 in Pathankot, 76 in Sangrur, 67 in Fazilka, 66 in Moga, 63 in Mansa, 61 in Muktsar, 55 in Barnala, 54 in Fatehgarh Sahib and 37 in Nawanshahr.
In the ongoing vaccination drive, 85,102 doses of the Covid vaccine were administered across the state. Of the total, 68,494 eligible beneficiaries were given the first shot and 9,629 received their second dose.
A total of 68,494 beneficiaries in the category of 45-plus were vaccinated with the first dose while 65,35 received their second dose. As many as 6,979 healthcare and frontline workers were given the first dose while 3,094 received their second dose.
