Gauteng police are investigating the murder of a 39-year-old man, who was stabbed to death along Batswana Street in Boipatong Location on 2 April.
A 25-year-old man was arrested the following day in connection with the murder.
"Investigations revealed that the deceased and the suspect were drinking together at Seipati Tavern. The two engaged in a heated argument that led to the stabbing," police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza told News24 on Thursday.
According to police, the man produced a sharp object, stabbed the deceased once in the chest, and then ran away.
"Investigations and information the community provided led to the arrest of the 25-year-old male suspect in his rental room along Batswana Street, not far from the crime scene," Kweza added.
The man appeared in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate's Court on 6 April. He was remanded in custody for a formal bail application.
He returned to court on Tuesday.
"No bail was granted, pending verification of his original residential address. He will appear again on 20 April for a bail application," Kweza said.
Police are still conducting further investigations regarding the argument and the motive for the murder. They are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.News24 has learnt that the deceased was Nathaniel Mbele, also known as "Spokgoane".
Vaal LGBTI project manager, Azania Sengwayo, told MambaOnline that Mbele was last seen alive at a tavern, and his body was found later that night.
Sengwayo also told the publication that Mbele was buried on 10 April.
