BHUBANESWAR: Ajit Mangaraj, Congress candidate for Pipili by-election, died of Covid-19 at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. The bypoll is likely to be countermanded.
Mangaraj (52), a businessman, had tested positive for the virus on April 10 and was admitted in Apollo Hospitals.
Dr Jyoti Prakash Parija, assistant medical superintendent of Apollo Hospitals, said Ajit passed away around 4 pm. “He was receiving treatment for Covid 19 and had turned critical for past some days. His family members were informed accordingly,” Parija said.
The bypoll was necessitated following death of senior BJD MLA Pradeep Maharathy who also died due to covid-19 in Bhubaneswar in October last year. He was 65 years old.
