AmaZulu have reportedly set a R2 million release clause if the South African Football Association (SAFA) want Benni McCarthy's services as Bafana Bafana coach before the end of the domestic season.

The legendary former Bafana Bafana striker has been linked with the job since SAFA opted to terminate the five-year contract of Molefi Ntseki last month.

Now, the governing body is already on the lookout for the next coach, with McCarthy reportedly earmarked as one of the potential candidates to become Bafana Bafana's 10th mentor in 15 years.

According to Soccer Laduma website, SAFA will have to cough up R2 million to Usuthu if the association wants McCarthy to start immediately.

However, the report further states that if SAFA is patient enough and willing to wait until the end of the domestic season in mid-May, no release clause payment is necessary.

SAFA have already stated that they received up to 200 CVs and hope to make the head coach announcement at the end of April with the looming 2022 World Cup qualifiers starting in June.

Meanwhile, McCarthy was only unveiled as AmaZulu coach in December last year with the intention of guiding the club out of the relegation zone.

McCarthy has surpassed all expectations as Usuthu currently occupy the second position on the DStv Premiership log standings.

The Bafana Bafana job has always been a poisoned chalice, but already a host of names, locally and abroad, are linked with the vacant post.

Pitso Mosimane seems to be one of the leading candidates for the position but previously served as national coach for two years (2010-12) and currently resides in Egypt as head coach of African powerhouse Al Ahly.

SAFA is linked with international candidates such as Herve Renard (France), former Bafana Bafana mentors Carlos Queiroz (Portugal) and Philippe Troussier's (France).
