CHENNAI: A 56-year-old police head constable, who had not reported to work for the last three years, was arrested after he threatened an octogenarian woman in Chennai on Tuesday in the guise of a police inspector.
The accused has been identified as J David Anandraj of West Ayanambakkam near Ambattur. He worked as a head constable at Elephant Gate police station and had not reported to work since 2018.
Anandraj and two others visited Sridevi Unnithan's house at Anna Nagar in an autorickshaw on Tuesday evening. Anandraj, who was wearing a police inspector's uniform, threatened Sridevi that he was going to arrest her for encroaching upon 25-cents of land at Ayanambakkam.
Sridevi's grandson Sailesh, who was at home, confronted the trio and alerted the police control room. The three men fled from the spot.
Sailesh, along with a few other residents, managed to nab Anandraj while the two others escaped.
The residents handed Anandraj over to the Thirumangalam police. He was remanded in judicial custody.
