Elections have already been held in four of the eight-point assembly elections in the state. The campaign is in full swing before the fifth point. Meetings, processions and road shows are going on. At various meetings and gatherings, people do not feel the need to wear masks, let alone social distance. Meanwhile, corona infection is increasing rapidly in the state. Some non-political organizations have also demanded that the vote be stopped. The Chief Electoral Officer of the state wants to reach a decision on what to do in this situation and discuss in detail with the political parties.
Letters have been sent to every political party to attend the meeting. A letter has been written on behalf of the Election Commission asking one representative from each political party to attend the meeting. Corona made this decision keeping in mind the situation.
Earlier this week, a public interest litigation was filed in the Calcutta High Court over the Corona situation. According to the court, the district magistrate and the commission have to take the responsibility to stop the crowd in meetings and public gatherings. If necessary, section 144 can be issued. The court asked the commission to state its views on the matter by April 19. Therefore, the commission wants to clarify its position by holding an all-party meeting earlier. That is what the political circles think. As well as the question arises, then the meeting, the assembly may choose an alternative route in the coming days? বাOr are virtual meetings or online political debates coming up as an alternative to public meetings?
