NEW DELHI: India is experiencing a fresh spike in Covid-19 cases after months of number dropping. The country’s pandemic curve had been flattening by January and February this year but has taken a sharp upward turn since March.
Notably, India recorded its biggest-ever single day spike with 184,372 fresh cases today. With this, India's Covid tally has shot up to 13,873,825 cases, according to the health ministry's data.
Reeling under an unprecedented Covid wave, several state governments have announced severe, curfew-like restrictions to limit the movement of people.
Over the last week, night curfews have been imposed in parts of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi, West Bengal, Karnataka and Maharashtra, among several others.
However, a range of essential services will also remain out of the purview of the new curbs.
