PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services has directed private medical colleges to dedicate 300 beds each to admit and treat patients with Covid-19 infection.
Of the 300 beds, 200 should be oxygen beds and 10 intensive care unit beds while the rest must be normal beds, said director (health and family welfare) S Mohankumar.
The decision was taken during a meeting convened by Kumar with the key administrators from private medical college hospitals in the presence of officials from the directorate to chalk out modalities to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the Union territory.
The directorate nominated nodal officers from the government institutions and private medical colleges to coordinate the admissions of Covid-19 patients referred by the government institutions to private medical college hospitals.
The directorate also directed all private medical colleges to perform 100 RT-PCR tests per day. The government institutions will send samples for testing to the private colleges.
"Consumables for these will be given by the government to private medical colleges," said Kumar in a statement.
