Mumbai on Tuesday reported 7,898 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 5,35,017, while 26 more patients succumbed to the infection. Maharashtra recorded 60,212 fresh coronavirus positive cases, with which the caseload reached 35,19,208. On the other hand, 281 people died due to the COVID-19 infection. The total death toll in the state reached 58,526. There are presently 5,93,042 active cases in the state.Due to the rising COVID-19 cases, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has announced that the state will be under a strict curfew for the next 15 days. Amid curfew imposed in Maharashtra, migrant workers begin leaving state
After the Maharashtra government on Tuesday announced the imposition of Section 144 in the state from Wednesday in view of rising COVID-19 cases, some migrant workers have started returning to their native places.The migrant workers can be seen leaving for their home states at key transit points in the city including, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai.Shivam Pandey, who hails from Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi told ANI that they do not want to go through the pain they endured during the lockdown last year."Now that curfew has been imposed, what would we do here? What would we eat? We are leaving the city because we do not want to go through the pain we endured during the lockdown," he said.
Mumbai: Can househelps go to work amid new restrictions?
Amid stricter lockdown-like restrictions imposed in Maharashtra starting Wednesday, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief IS Chahal opened up on whether maids and househelps will be allowed to travel in the city.Chahal informed that domestic helps and maids will be permitted by the civic body to travel and continue with their work during the period from April 14 to April 30. Thane: Dead body found in Talao Pali
On Tuesday night, at around 11:20 pm, the dead body of an unknown female (age around 25 years) was found in Thane's Talao Pali, in front of Visava hotel. RDMC, Naupada Police officials and Fire Brigade reached on site with one Fire engine and one Hearse Van. Dead body has been handed over to Naupada Police officials for further investigations. Maharashtra minister Aslam Shaikh slammed celebrities occupying hospital beds in the city. He said, "Celebrities who are asymptomatic should take treatment at home, not occupy beds in the hospital. Some celebrities like Akshay Kumar, Sachin Tendulkar did not need to get admitted to the hospital. Beds should be left for the needy."

Give relief, ramp up health infrastructure: Maharashtra BJP after new curbs
Former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said the Uddhav Thackeray-led government in the state must give concessions in electricity bills, property tax and GST, following the announcement of new "lockdown-like" restrictions to check coronavirus cases."The state seems to have not offered any concessions in electricity bills, property tax or GST. Similarly, no financial assistance announced for salon operators, small businessman, flower vendors among others. These comprise of a major labour force who will have no means of earnings," Fadnavis said.

Reeling under an unprecedented COVID-19 wave, the Maharashtra government on Tuesday announced severe, curfew-like restrictions on public movement over the next 15 days across the state, saying the "war against coronavirus has begun again," as it flagged a shortage of medical oxygen and hospital beds.The "lockdown-like" restrictions, which exclude essential services, will come into effect from 8 pm on April 14 and remain in force till 7 am on May 1, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said in his address via social media to people of the state. 3,29,056 more vaccinated against COVID-19 in Maharashtra
Maharashtra has carried out thevaccination of 3,29,056 more people against COVID-19, taking the cumulative figure to 1,05,71,680, said a state health department official on Tuesday.The state on Monday vaccinated 6,938 healthcare professionals, 18,854 frontline workers, 1,88,553 people in the 45-59 age group and having comorbidities and 1,14,711 senior citizens (total 3,29,056), he said.With this, 12,78,391 healthcare workers and 15,58,299 frontline workers have received vaccine doses so far, the official said.

Mumbai on Tuesday reported 7,898new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 5,35,017, while 26 more patients succumbed to the infection, the city civic body said.The fresh cases were nearly 1,000 higher than Monday when 6,905 infections were reported.Also, 11,263 people were discharged from hospitals during the day, pushing the number of recovered cases to 4,34,941, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.With this, the number of active cases stood at 86,866 in the financial capital, it said.
