Coronavirus: 9 UK mutant strain, 4 double mutant found in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Apr 14 (UNI) Nine samples of UK mutant strain while four of the double mutant variant of coronavirus were found in Jharkhand on Wednesday, post which the state government requested the fellow citizen to follow the restrictions very strictly.
A total of 52 positive stored RT-PCR samples were sent to Regional Genome Sequencing Laboratory (RGSL), Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) Bhubaneshwar for Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS).
Of the 52 samples sent to ILS, Bhubaneshwar for genome sequencing, 39 samples were selected for whole genome sequencing. Out of the total samples sent for sequencing, 9 samples were found to be of UK mutant strain and 4 samples were found to be double mutant. 8 UK mutant samples were from District Ranchi and 1 was from District East Singhbhum, whereas, out of 4 double mutant strains, 3 were from Ranchi district and one sample was from District East Singhbhum. Whereas among these samples, 5 samples are from female and 8 samples are from male, an official release said.
As per Government of India genomic Surveillance Program, the samples are stored in -80°C and positive samples having CT values less than 25 were sent for genomic sequencing . The cold chain of the samples of RNA or VTM aliquots is maintained during the transport.
This sequence will help in better planning for future and an alert for the Health Department to plan in better management of the patients.
The state government requested the fellow citizen to follow the restrictions very strictly so that together we can break the chain and slow down the progression of this disease in Jharkhand.'' it added.
