COVID-19: Prohibition orders issued in Mumbai under Article 144

Mumbai: Police in Mumbai on Wednesday issued new injunctions under Article 144 of the CrPC, which prohibits the gathering of five or more people in one place in the city to distribute COVID-19, an official said.

The order takes effect from 8pm on Wednesday and remains valid until May 1 until 7pm, he said.

It is part of the Maharashtra government’s restricted restrictions on public movement during the next 15 days by the state. Uddhav Thackeray, Prime Minister, said on Tuesday, although he announced these restrictions, that Article 144 of CrPC would be in force throughout the state during the period.

According to the order issued by the Mumbai police, all institutions, public places, activities, services remain closed and no one will visit public places without a valid reason.

The services and activities mentioned in the essential category were released during the period of the order. They were also released on weekdays from 07:00 to 20:00 and their movement and activities will remain unrestricted, the order reads.

People were asked to follow the social distancing norms, use face masks and follow the instructions of the state government to spread the word. coronavirus.

Division ACSs, zonal DCPs and additional local commissioners of police are authorized to grant exemption or permission in emergencies and a special case, the order reads.

Anyone violating the order could be punished under section 188 of the IPC, in addition to penalties under the Epidemic Diseases Act and the National Disaster Management Act, he said.
