Hyderabad: Telangana received another national award because it was the first place in the country for the maintenance of e-Panchayat, an initiative launched to improve the quality of management of the Panchayat Raj institutions.
Bijay Kumar Behera, economic adviser to the Panchayati Raj ministry, announced the award for the year 2019-20. Under e-Panchayat Award, performance appraisal parameters were developed to monitor the effective use of e-applications – both Panchayat Enterprise Suite (PES) applications and government-specific applications for the 2019-20 achievement year.
The states and the Union territories are divided into three categories. The Ministry acknowledges the efforts made by the States and Union Territories to use the Panchayats Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by allocating e-Panchahayt puraskars, Behera said.
On the occasion, Eranchelli Dayakar Rao, Minister of Panchayat Raj, said that Telangana is the first place to ensure transparency, efficiency and accountability in Gram Panchayats, using ICT.
Dayakar Rao thanked the central government and Prime Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for the award. “We received the award only because of the foresight and vision of the minister,” he said, adding that the Panchayat Raj department had received several awards in the recent past.
The local bodies recently received 12 awards in addition to the Swachh Sarvekshan Award. Dayakar Rao commended the Panchayat Raj Department Secretary, Sandeep Kumar Sultania, and Commissioner M Raghunandan Rao, and sanitary workers across the state for their contribution to town development and paving the way for the award.
