THANE: The
Covid management in Thane city has come under the scanner of the political parties and activists who have questioned the efficiency of the administration and loosing grip of the ruling
Shiv Sena following a spate of lapses in the city over the last few days.
It may be recalled patients have been complaining of a longer waiting time for getting registered with the Covid war rooms and subsequent admissions to Covid hospitals in Thane.
Also, recent incidents of oxygen shortage leading to immediate transfer of critical patients from field hospitals to
wrapping corpses in bedsheets due to inadequate body bags has apparently exposed the chinks in the preparedness of the administration here.
MNS Thane Palghar chief,
Avinash Jadhav, Wednesday, issued an ultimatum to the municipal administration to improve the facilities here. “We have set up a help desk for Covid patients and their families as the civic facility often remains unavailable. The administration seems to be least interested in addressing the problems of the common man. We will protest if the situation doesn’t improve in the coming days,” said Jadhav.
Meanwhile, BJP city president MLC Niranjan
Davkhare also alleged mismanagement of Covid cases by the administration as several cases of patient relatives running around for crucial medicines, corpses wrapped in trash bags, facilities shortage at Covid hospitals reported in the city over the last few days.
“The administration seems callous also because it may be stretched beyond its capacity. It is surprising to note the ruling party has lost hold over the administration as the Covid menace is growing beyond its control now. This seems like a medical emergency in the city. we have extended full support to the
Sena but it seems to have bore no fruits,” questioned Davkhare.
Meanwhile, the administration said they are working relentlessly to ensure there is no inconvenience to patients.
