I have a buddy from a different jobsite that has a good friend with family who got him a job at SDG&E for a meter technician
Turns out my buddy will start with them this fall and I’m thinking about switching to utility/ higher voltage stuff myself
Apparently SDG&E starts you out at 30/$hr , you do 16 weeks of schooling and then after that you work towards your hours and top out at 56$/hr and some change on the check for just a ****ing meter tech
The biggest utility company here and in OC, SDG&E , indentures you into the high voltage/ lineman’s union, the pay and bennies are sick and you’re never laid off because SDG&E pretty much has a monopoly on the utility work done here.
Lineman make even more but I’m more interested in moving to distribution , the sparky that moggs all other sparkies.
One of the f250s I looked at belonged to a distribution electrician and he had 2 new trucks and nice house in San Marcos. He also easily had 10-20k in tattoo work. He was maybe early 30s.
Should I do it misc if I get my foot in ? Any misc utility sparkies here ? Lineman included ?
Being a construction/“inside” wireman is nice and all but I want to strive for something a little better and more technical.

bro i told you to be a lineman like a year ago. they make bank. Our lead lineman and another lineman were number 8 and 9 in highest compensated employees for my company in 2018. $164k and $168k "reportable compensation", and $20-25k estimated "other compensation" from the company.
In 2017 3 lineman were on the list.Last edited by ScramFranklin; Today at 09:40 AM.
