NOIDA: A candidate for the zila panchayat polls allegedly fired upon cops when a police team raided his house in Dadri on information that he was in possession of illicit liquor supposed to be distributed to voters.
Police said Mukesh Gurjar, who is contesting the local zila panchayat member polls, opened fire as soon as he spotted cops outside his house in Nangla Nainsukh village on Sunday.
Dadri SHO Rajvir Singh told TOI, “He was spotted outside the house, but he got alarmed and fired one gunshot before escaping. An FIR is being lodged against him. Mukesh has a criminal history, and is wanted in cases of causing hurt and under the Arms Act.”
However, police managed to arrest one of his accomplices, Satendra Bhati, and seized five boxes of Haryana-made liquor from his possession.
Candidate distributed mosquito nets to voters?
Certain locals of Mahvalipur village in Jewar have alleged that one of the candidates fighting the zila panchayat polls distributed mosquito nets to several local residents. The villagers claimed that the distribution was done on Sunday night to avoid any action by the administration. “The mosquito nets, along with wine and soft drinks, were distributed by a candidate with the help of a former villager pradhan,” a villager told TOI.
However, administration officials said they will investigate the matter even though they are yet to get a written complaint. “We are yet to get any written complaint but we will get the matter checked,” SDM (Jewar) Rajnikant said.
